Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson were big gainers in the latest ICC T20I rankings for batters, on 11 March. The left-handed Ishan rose to the second spot while Sanju Samson gained 18 places to move to 22nd among T20I batters. Meanwhile, Varun Chakaravarthy has lost his spot as the No. 1 T20I bowler. Both Ishan and Sanju played pivotal roles in India winning the T20 World Cup 2026 title on 8 March. India, with the victory, became the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cups and achieve the feat on home soil. Ishan Kishan displaces Sahibzada Farhan Ishan gained two spots to move to the second place, replacing Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan, who dropped to the third spot in the ICC T20I rankings for batters. Ishan also has attained a career-best rating for 871 and is four points adrift of Abhishek Sharma, who continues to hold the top spot. Ishan finished fourth in the list of most runs scored at the T20 World Cup 2026, with 317 runs to his name. The southpaw also scored a magnificent 25-ball 54 in the final, a knock which included four fours and as many sixes and powered India to a massive score of 255/5 that eventually proved to be more than enough. Sanju Samson gains 18 spots, now ranked 22 Samson had a sensational T20 World Cup campaign wherein he finished as the third-highest run-getter, only behind Farhan (383 runs) and Tim Seifert (326 runs). Samson did not play all matches for India, featuring in just five games in the T20 World Cup-winning campaign, but made his impact felt big time, which deservedly earned him Player of the Tournament award. The right-hander hit three consecutive fifties (97*, 89 and 89) in the virtual quarterfinal, semifinal and final, respectively, to stand out. Varun Chakaravarthy loses top spot to Rashid Khan Meanwhile, Varun no longer remains the No.1 ranked T20I bowler, with Rashid Khan replacing him. The Indian spinner had a tough time at the T20 World Cup where he conceded plenty of runs from the Super 8 stage onwards. Against England in the semifinal, Chakaravarthy leaked 64 runs in four overs, bowling the joint-most expensive spell in T20 World Cup history. However, despite being expensive, Chakaravarthy managed to take atleast one wicket in every match he played. He finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament alongside Jasprit Bumrah, with both Indian stars scalping 14 wickets. Bumrah, meanwhile, gained one spot to move to the sixth spot among T20I bowlers. Sikandar Raza remains top-ranked T20I all-rounder Sikandar Raza continues to be the top-ranked T20I all-rounder. The Zimbabwe captain has 328 rating points to his name after a decent T20 World Cup campaign. Hardik Pandya sits second on this list with 299 ratings. Following Hardik is Pakistan's Saim Ayub in the third place.

Bangladesh thrash Pakistan by 8 wickets in ODI series opener:Nahid Rana, Tanzid Tamim help Tigers gain 1-0 series lead

Bangladesh thrashed Pakistan by eight wickets in the first ODI played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, on 11 March. Chasing just 115 to win, Bangladesh got past the finish line in just 15.1 overs. Earlier, Nahid Rana scalped a sensational five-wicket haul that broke the back of Pakistan's batting, skittling them out for 114 in 30.4 overs. Bangladesh gained a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with this commanding victory. Nahid Rana wrecks Pakistan with fiery five-wicket haul The Bangladesh bowlers completely justified their captain's call to bowl first after winning the toss. Pakistan got off to a steady start with debutants Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat stitching a 41-run partnership. But since that, all went downhill for Pakistan as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Rana wreaked havoc with a five-wicket haul in seven overs, where he conceded just 24 runs. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz (3/29) bagged three wickets while Mustafizur Rahman (1/18) and Taskin Ahmed (1/29) got one each. Tanzid Tamim stars in easy chase Chasing 115 to win was never going to be a difficult task for Bangladesh unless Pakistan bowlers started out by taking a flurry of wickets. But that was not the case as Bangladesh openers Tanzid Tamim and Saif Hassan stitched 27 runs for the opening wicket. Tamim stood out as the best batter, scoring an unbeaten 67 off 42 deliveries, hitting seven fours and five sixes. Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi struck early, dismissing Saif, but after that, it was Najmul Hossain Shanto who joined forces with Tamim to put together 82 runs for the second wicket and that put the result beyond doubt. Although Mohammad Wasim Jnr was able to get rid of Shanto towards the end, the result was just a formality as Bangladesh got past the finish line with ease.

Shivam Dube boards AC 3-Tier train after T20 WC win:Indian star took upper berth, was almost 'caught' by ticket checker

Shivam Dube pulled off an amazing disguise to travel back home from Ahmedabad on a train after India's T20 World Cup win. India scripted history on 8 March at the Narendra Modi Stadium when the Men in Blue thrashed New Zealand by 96 runs to win a record third T20 World Cup title. Dube was among the unsung heroes in India's T20 World Cup triumph. The explosive batter made crucial contributions down the order on a number of occasions throughout the campaign, something that drove India to big scores, especially in the knockouts. Why did Shivam Dube take a train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad? Cricketers generally board flights for home after a tournament or any other international assignment. And Dube too looked for flights to travel back to Mumbai from Ahmedabad, but there weren't any available, according to The Indian Express. The all-rounder explained the rationale behind taking the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Sayaji Express, while there was an option to return home via road as well. "There was no flight available, so I decided to take a train from Ahmedabad early in the morning to Mumbai. We could have gone by road, but the train was faster," he said, as quoted by the publication. Furthermore, The Indian Express report described how Dube took a disguise so that he could not be recognised by fans. Travelling by train poses an obvious chance of being identified, which would then lead to him being mobbed by fans. "Me, my wife and a friend decided to take a train. 3rd AC tickets were available, so we decided to book them. Everyone we spoke to was worried, family and friends. What if someone recognised me at the station or inside the train?" Dube said. He further added, "I wore a cap, a mask and a full-sleeved T-shirt. It was a 5:10 am train, so we hoped there would not be many people on the platform,” he said. But after finding out that there were a lot of fans still at the station, Dube planned to wait in his car minutes before the train departed and board the train in a rush so that he could not be recognised. Shivam Dube was almost 'caught' by ticket checker While Dube managed to maintain his disguise as a commoner by covering himself with a blanket after boarding the upper berth of the train, he was close to being caught by the ticket checker. The ticket checker saw his name and almost figured out that he was the cricketer. “Shivam Dube? Woh kaun hai, cricketer? (Is he the cricketer?)” Shivam's wife Anjum, tackled the situation, saying that he wasn't the cricketer but someone else. “No, no. Woh kahan se aayega (where will he come from)?,” she said to the ticket checker before he went away. Dube further went on to add that the train ride was smooth and passengers did not realise that it was him. "At night, I got down from the berth, but no one recognised me on the way to the washroom and back. The train trip was smooth, but I was worried about getting down at Borivali in broad daylight. I couldn’t have escaped attention there," he said as quoted by The Indian Express. The Indian cricketer, however, required the police's help upon reaching Borivali, where he feared he might be recognised. Shivam Dube's T20 World Cup campaign Dube was one of the most important players in India's T20 World Cup title win. The left-hander often came down the order and on occasions, even batted above to provide the finishing touches in India's innings. The left-hander's best performance came against Netherlands,, where he smashed 66 runs off just 31 balls. In the final, he smashed 26 runs off just eight deliveries to power India to 255/5, a total which was comfortably a match-winning one. with Overall, he scored 235 runs in nine matches at a blistering strike-rate of 169.06 at the T20 World Cup.

MS Dhoni will play the full IPL 2026 season. This was confirmed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan on Wednesday, 11 March. However, he said that the coaching staff will decide what Dhoni's role in the team will be. "He will play the matches, all matches," he said, while speaking to reporters. MS Dhoni began training in early March The 44-year-old Dhoni had reached Chennai at the beginning of March and is practising with the team. Under the leadership of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team has started preparations for the new season. Despite the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, he does not foresee any major problems regarding the organization. Viswanathan expressed happiness over India winning the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time. He said that CSK players Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube performed brilliantly in the tournament, which will also boost the team's confidence.
'MS Dhoni never said to drop Yuvraj Singh':Ex-selector opens up on controversies in Indian cricket including Kohli-Kumble rift

Sandeep Patil, former chief selector of the Indian cricket team, has made it absolutely clear that MS Dhoni had no role in Yuvraj Singh being dropped from the side. For long, it has been rumoured that it was Dhoni who wanted Yuvraj to be dropped from the Indian team, but all those claims have been put to rest. Patil opened up on several controversies in Indian cricket while speaking on a YouTube show. The former Indian cricketer served as the national selection committee chairman from 2012 to 2016. ‘MS Dhoni never said to drop Yuvraj Singh’ Patil revealed that Dhoni never said anything about dropping Yuvraj. "I don't want to point a finger on Dhoni. During our four-year term, whenever I had the opportunity of sitting with Dhoni, not once, not during selection meetings, not on tour, not during matches, did he say please drop Yuvraj Singh. I am going on the record.” Patil added that it is not wrong for Yuvraj's father, Yograj Singh, to be emotional for his son, but in this case, the accusations were misplaced. “A father feeling strongly about his son is not wrong. But the blame is being placed in the wrong place,” he said. When asked if Dhoni opposed Yuvraj being dropped from the team, Patil said, “Maybe he had total confidence in the selection committee. He didn't say anything.” ‘Told Sachin that selectors were looking for a replacement’ Patil also mentioned his meeting with Sachin Tendulkar in 2012. After the drawn Nagpur Test against England, he and selector Rajinder Singh Hans met Sachin and asked him about his future plans. According to Patil, when Tendulkar was told that the selection committee was looking for future options, Sachin was surprised. However, Patil clarified that the selectors never asked Sachin to retire. “I told him the committee was looking for a replacement. He was shocked. He called me again — are you serious? I said yes,” he revealed his conversation with the Master Blaster. Patil said that later Sachin himself announced his retirement and informed him about it over the phone. ‘Gautam Gambhir hasn’t spoken to me since' Sandeep also spoke about his relationship with Gautam Gambhir. According to Patil, Gambhir has not spoken to him since being dropped from the team. Despite sitting together in many TV programs, Gambhir does not even make eye contact with him. Sharing that once Gambhir was very close to him, Patil said, “We have sat on the same television shows — News18, ABP — Gauti is there, I am there. He has never once looked at me. Not a glance. Every time I say hello, there is no response.” Patil said that changes were necessary in the team at that time and during that period, players like Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane got an opportunity. On Kohli-Kumble dispute, said - handling senior players is a different challenge On the dispute between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble, Patil said that it is possible both made some mistakes. According to him, handling senior players is a different challenge, and if not handled correctly, the dressing room atmosphere can be affected. “Whose fault was it? Both, perhaps. But where Anil Kumble went wrong is what I also tried to do when I was coach — trying to take control, rather than understanding the players and the system," he said.

BCCI clears MS Dhoni of conflict of interest allegations:'Commercial dispute' triggered complaint against CSK legend for enjoying dual perks

MS Dhoni received relief from the Board of Control for Cricket in India after the board's Ethics Officer, Justice Arun Mishra (retd.), dismissed the complaint filed against the former Indian captain for alleged violations of conflict-of-interest provisions. According to the board officer's ruling, no conflict of interest was established regarding Dhoni's participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The dispute arose when a complaint was filed against the former captain for owning and overseeing M/S Aarka Sports and Management Private Limited while he was a member of the Chennai Super Kings. It is worth noting that Dhoni has led CSK to the IPL title five times so far in his stint with the cash-rich league. BCCI shuts down conflict of interest allegations against MS Dhoni In his ruling as a BCCI Ethics Officer, Justice Mishra noted that while Dhoni could be considered the owner of the cricket academies opened by M/S Aarka Sports and Management Private Limited. The reason mentioned for the allowance was that the agreement was entered into in 2017, before the BCCI's conflict-of-interest regulations came into force in September 2018. Therefore, the former cricketer cannot be judged in that regard. Along with it, even if Dhoni's ownership is considered, the Ethics Officer observed that there was no foundational evidence demonstrating that Dhoni's participation as a player placed him in a position of "institutional control or decision-making authority". Also Read: Pakistan bag ₹4.8 crore after Super 8 exit; breakdown of ICC's ₹103.77 crore prize money Furthermore, the ruling emphasised that no instances of "favouritism, bias, or preferential treatment" were cited or proven in relation to the academy ownership.
Therefore, Justice Mishra cleared Dhoni of the alleged conflict of interest in the absence of such material, citing that his actions did not satisfy the ‘definitional threshold of conflict.’ What was the case about? The lawsuit against MS Dhoni was originally filed in February 2024 by the complainant. The complaint cited that Dhoni, as a "current player," was simultaneously the "owner of a Cricket Academy," thereby violating Rule 38(4)(a) and Rule 38(4)(p). In addition to it, Dhoni was also alleged of not disclosing such info, which was breach of Rules 38(2) and 38(5) according to the 2018 amendment. However, it turned out in the ruling that instead of making factual allegations, the complaint was a result of a commercial grudge against MS Dhoni from the complainant. What did the ruling state? The Ethics Officer noted that the additional submissions reflect personal grievances and allegations that extend beyond the scope of Rule 38. It was concluded that the complainant suffered loss in the business and was involved in a commercial dispute with the MS Dhoni-owned organisation. Also, Dhoni became the owner in 2017, whereas BCCI's regulations came into force in September 2018. Also, there was no allegation of favouritism against the CSK player, so he cannot be charged with non-disclosure of the existing interest under Rule 34(3) and 34(5). Therefore, the whole of the complaint was dismissed.

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma said that he was certainly disappointed about not getting a place in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, but soon after, a personal tragedy struck his life, which completely changed his perspective. Jitesh's father, Mohan Sharma, passed away on February 1st after a short illness. He said that he stayed with his father for seven days at that time, and during that period, he realised that family was more important to him than the World Cup. In an interview given to news agency PTI, Jitesh spoke openly about the ups and downs of his career and personal life. ‘My dad needed me more than World Cup’: Jitesh Sharma On the experience of being left out of the World Cup squad, Jitesh said, "When I got the news of my non-selection, I was a little bit disheartened. I am also a human. I can feel sad and bad. But later on, as time went by, the sad time becomes short." Further expressing his grief with a choking voice, Jitesh added, “But later on, my dad got ill. And he passed away on the 1st of Feb. So, I was with him for seven days. Afterwards, I got to know that my dad needed me more than the World Cup. After that, I didn't have any sad feelings, any regret or anything for anyone or for myself also. I am not angry or anything.” ‘Responsible for taking decisions as elder son, can’t be weak in front of family' After his father's passing, Jitesh is now playing the role of the eldest son in his family. He said, “I can't forget that thing, and I don't want to forget that thing because he is not there anymore. When you lose your dad, after a few days you get to know that you are now responsible for taking decisions in your family as the elder son.” He further added, “And that's it - to take care of your mother, brother and family. So, I'm someone who can't show my feelings to them and can't be weak in front of them because they are looking at me while playing cricket, also. And I have to accept it.” Cricket taught resilience Jitesh says that cricket taught him to move forward with this grief. He said, “If he were alive today, he would have told me to go and practice. Don't worry about me. So I always bring this thing to my mind that if I'm in sorrow or pain, what he would have told me? I think he would have suggested me to go and play the game. And I'm very proud of it.” Inspired by Rinku Singh Jitesh also drew parallels with teammate Rinku Singh, saying he understood the emotional strength required to return to the field after personal setbacks. "That's the same thing Rinku must have felt. That's why he was able to come on the ground again. And it's a very big thing," he added. Got inspiration from Virat Kohli Jitesh said that while being with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, he gets a chance to see Virat Kohli up close, which gives him a lot of inspiration. He said that there is a lot to learn from Kohli's preparation, discipline and energy. A lot can be learned by just observing small things. The way Virat starts his day and prepares is very inspiring. Although at 32, I cannot match his energy. Three wicketkeepers can also play together Talking about team combination, Jitesh said that he is ready to play in any role. He said that if it is in the team's interest, three wicketkeepers can also play together. Two wicketkeepers can play their role, and the third can play the role of a finisher. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are also options as wicketkeeper-batsmen in the team.

A complaint has been filed against Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya for allegedly disrespecting the national flag (Tricolour). This complaint was lodged at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station in Bengaluru by Pune-based lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar. The complaint alleges that Pandya did not respect the national flag during the celebrations held at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium after India's victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. According to the complainant, several videos of the team celebrating on the field after Team India's victory went viral on social media. In one video, Pandya is seen dancing and running on the field with the Indian Tricolour draped over his shoulder. It is alleged that during the celebration, Pandya was seen lying on the stage with his girlfriend, while the Tricolour was still draped over his shoulder. The complainant states that this is against the respect due to the national flag. Pune lawyer alleges Hardik disrespected the dignity of national flag Lawyer Wajid Khan stated that the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, mandates maintaining the dignity of the Tricolour. He alleged that Hardik Pandya failed to observe this during the celebration, which could be considered an insult to the national flag. He has filed a complaint under Section 2 of this law. This law has been enacted to prevent the insult of national symbols such as the national flag, the Constitution, and the national anthem. Under this, allowing the Tricolour to fall on the ground, wearing it improperly, or in any way harming its dignity is considered punishable. Khan stated that he has filed a written complaint at Shivaji Nagar Police Station. Initially, the police said that since the incident occurred in Ahmedabad, the case should be registered there. However, Khan argued that the Tricolour is a national symbol of the entire country, so a complaint can be filed anywhere. Later, the police accepted his complaint and also provided him with a copy. India won the title by defeating New Zealand India won the T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final. This is India's third T20 World Cup title. India had previously won this trophy in 2007 and 2024 as well. Meanwhile, this is the first time a team has won the T20 World Cup in their home country and claimed the title twice in a row.

Why off-cutters outsmarted willow dominant T20 WC 2026?:Batters succumbed to 19% of record slower deliveries in tournament

T20 cricket has always been considered a batsman's game, but in the T20 World Cup 2026, fast bowlers made a strong comeback through 'slower balls' (pace-off). Throughout this tournament, the percentage of slower balls among the total deliveries bowled by fast bowlers was 15.88%, meaning almost every sixth ball was bowled with reduced pace. This is the highest in the last four editions. In modern cricket, fast bowlers have many new and complex slower balls like leg-cutters, knuckle-balls, and split-finger deliveries. However, amidst all these variations, an old and basic ball became the bowlers' most lethal weapon, the 'off-cutter'. To take wickets, bowlers relied heavily on this simple ball among the variety of slower deliveries. In the final match against New Zealand, Jasprit Bumrah used this swinging off-cutter to send 4 Kiwi batsmen back to the pavilion and secure a magnificent victory for India. Bumrah bowled 18 off-cutters in his 4-over spell in the final Bumrah made the most of this variation. Out of the 24 balls he bowled in the final, 18 were off-cutters. After becoming 'Player of the Match' in the final, Bumrah had said, 'From my experience and playing on the flat pitches here, I have learned that bowling too fast makes it easier for batsmen to play shots. So, I played smartly and tried to think about what the batsmen were trying to do.' It is worth noting that Narendra Modi Stadium is Bumrah's home ground. This variation was most dangerous in Ahmedabad because the ground is big Ngidi and other stars of off-cutter, Schalkwyk What is an Off-Cutter? In cricket, an 'off-cutter' is a type of slower variation used by fast bowlers. It is an off-spin ball bowled by a fast bowler. When a fast bowler bowls it, they come with their normal run-up and action, but while releasing the ball, they quickly roll their fingers over the seam to the right (clockwise). This is technically called 'cutting' the ball. Due to this specific finger action, the speed of the ball automatically decreases significantly. After pitching, this ball moves from outside (off-stump) to inside (leg-stump or body) for a right-handed batsman. Since the batsman expects a fast ball looking at the run-up, this sudden change in pace completely disrupts their timing. The ball comes off the pitch a little slower, causing the batsman to often play their shot too early. The result is that the ball goes high in the air, or the batsman is directly bowled or given out LBW. In T20 cricket, this ball is one of the biggest weapons. Especially when the pitch is dry or grippy, this ball grips the pitch more after pitching and becomes extremely difficult for batsmen to read. This is why in big tournaments like the World Cup, fast bowlers rely most on this 'off-cutter' to stop runs and take wickets at crucial moments. Bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Dwayne Bravo, Mustafizur Rahman, and Harshal Patel are considered among the best bowlers in the world in this art.

Pakistan have reportedly received no support from other cricket boards on their decision to boycott India in the T20 World Cup. The Government of Pakistan had earlier cleared Pakistan to compete in the T20 World Cup but not play against India, on 15 February. This comes after Pakistan had criticised the ICC's decision to remove Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to travel to India due to security concerns. India and Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside the USA, the Netherlands and Namibia. Pakistan have no 'locus standi' According to a report in NDTV, Pakistan have received no support from any other cricket board on their decision to boycott the match against India. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi, has reached out to other cricket boards, but his efforts have gone in vain. The report further adds that other cricket boards have informed the PCB that it had no 'locus standi' (or no legal right to interfere) in Bangladesh's T20 World Cup venue controversy, which dominated headlines for a number of weeks. As a result, Pakistan have reportedly found itself ‘isolated’ in the cricket world amid their decision to not play against India. Interestingly, Bangladesh accepted ICC's decision to replace them with Scotland in the T20 World Cup, which put an end to the venue controversy. Pakistan, however, added a fresh angle to the controversy by first shedding uncertainty on their participation in the T20 World Cup and later announcing their decision to boycott the match. Also read: 11 'accidental' IND vs PAK matches since last February: ICC, broadcasters, PCB or BCCI who is to blame for the T20 World Cup mess? Pakistan yet to formally inform ICC about boycotting India match Pakistan, however, are yet to formally inform the ICC about boycotting their match against India. It remains unclear as to when the PCB officially communicate their decision to the ICC on boycotting the match against India. The apex body had, in a statement, announced that this decision could have consequences for cricket in its own country and world cricket at large. The ICC also said that it expected the PCB to 'explore a mutually acceptable resolution'. "The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country as this is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, which it is itself a member and beneficiary of," the ICC said in a statement. PCB facing threat of legal action from broadcasters While Pakistan face a looming threat of sanctions from the ICC for deciding to boycott the match against India, they are also likely to be hit with legal action from the broadcasters JioStar for this decision to boycott India. "If Pakistan doesn't relent and play against India, not only will they face financial penalties, perhaps a lawsuit from broadcasters, but also any efforts to go to the ICC Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) are likely to fail," a PCB source, quoted by PTI, said. "When the ICC signed its four-year deal with the broadcaster for all ICC events, the contract included Pakistan and India matches, based on which the broadcaster made the payments to the ICC," another source said, adding, "So the broadcaster will be within its rights to take the PCB and ICC to court over a major breach of the contract."

The much-awaited T20 World Cup 2026 will kick off on 7 February, with the tournament's first match played between Pakistan and the Netherlands in Sri Lanka. A total of 20 teams are participating in this mega event, divided into four different groups. The tournament can witness history, with title holders India gunning to defend their title. Alongside India in Group A are Pakistan, the USA, Namibia and the Netherlands. However, Group D might just be called the ‘Group of Death’ having teams like South Africa, New Zealand and Afghanistan. In this story, we will analyze all the groups of the tournament Group A: How can India and Pakistan qualify for Super 8? As mentioned before, Group A includes arch-rivals India and Pakistan along with the Netherlands, the USA, and Namibia. India are hot favourites to go through to the Super 8 from this stage alongside Pakistan. But it has to be kept in mind that the India vs Pakistan match on 15 February is uncertain at the moment after the Government of Pakistan instructed the team to boycott the game. At the time of writing this story, the International Cricket Council has not yet given a final verdict on this issue. While India and Pakistan are firm favourites, one cannot look past the fact that the USA had created the biggest upset of the tournament by defeating Pakistan in the last T20 World Cup. The Monank Patel-led side had defeated 2009 champions Pakistan in a Super Over and made it to the Super 8 stage. For Pakistan to qualify, they have to defeat the USA, Namibia and the Netherlands while uncertainty prevails over their game against India. Both India and Pakistan, however, won't take any team lightly in Group A. All squads of Group A teams: India: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Rinku Singh. Pakistan: Salman Ali Agha (Captain), Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Khawaja Mohammad Nafe, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan and Usman Tariq. Group B: Australia, Sri Lanka in tricky group Group B includes Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Oman, and Zimbabwe. Australia and Sri Lanka are expected to qualify for the Super 8 but again, no team can be taken lightly, especially in a format like the T20, which has produced surprises before. Australia are known for performing consistently in World Cups and one can expect the T20 World Cup to be no different. Additionally, teams like Ireland, Oman, and Zimbabwe are also in this group. Ireland has surprised big teams before, while emerging teams like Oman and Zimbabwe are rapidly improving their performance in the shorter format. All squads of Group B teams: Australia: Mitchell Marsh (Captain), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Renshaw, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa. While England and West Indies are hot favourites in this group, Nepal can turn out to be a surprise package. The Rohit Paudel-led side had almost defeated South Africa in the previous edition of T20 World Cup, with the Proteas winning by just one run. Nepal are the ‘dark horse’ in Group C and cannot be taken lightly. After the last T20 World Cup (June 29, 2024), Nepal have played a total of 24 T20 International matches, winning 16 and losing 5, while some matches were tied or had no result. Between 2024 and October 2025, Nepal secured two victories in a series against the USA, while surprising everyone by defeating a strong team like the West Indies by 19 and 90 runs in two matches in Sharjah. After Bangladesh's exit from the T20 World Cup, Scotland has been included in Group C. England and West Indies are the most successful teams in Group C, having won two T20 World Cup titles each so far. Matches between England and Scotland are always high-voltage. In 2018, Scotland caused a major upset by defeating England by 6 runs in an ODI. Meanwhile, in the 2022 World Cup, Scotland defeated the West Indies. All squads of Group C teams: England: Harry Brook (Captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue and Luke Wood. South Africa had finished runners-up in the last edition while New Zealand had come up short in the 2021 final.
Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has expressed strong confidence in Team India’s chances at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Dhoni believes the current Indian squad has all the qualities needed to succeed in a high-pressure global tournament. According to Dhoni, the Indian team's biggest strength is its balance. He feels the side has the right mix of experience, skill, and clarity in roles, which is very important in the fast-paced T20 format. Dhoni also pointed out that many players in the squad are used to handling pressure, both at the international level and in franchise cricket. With the World Cup approaching fast, Dhoni’s words have come as a big boost for Indian fans, who are hopeful of another strong run by the Men in Blue. As India prepares for the T20 World Cup 2026, Dhoni’s insights highlight both the team’s strengths and the challenges ahead, reminding everyone why the tournament remains one of the most exciting events in world cricket. MS Dhoni opens up on Rohit-Virat's participation in 2027 ODI WC MS Dhoni opens up on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's participation for 2027 ODI World Cup. He said, “Why shouldn’t they play it? The age is not a criteria, it’s the performance and fitness. If they’re performing and are dedicated to do well, then why not? You can't get a 20 year old who is experienced unless he’s Sachin” ‘One of the most dangerous teams’ - Dhoni on India’s strength MS Dhoni believes that India’s players are always mentally prepared, whether they are batters or bowlers. He feels this constant readiness gives India an edge over other teams in crucial moments. Also read: How India and Pakistan can qualify for Super 8 stage: Australia face tricky road, South Africa and New Zealand in 'Group of Death' “It’s one of the most dangerous teams. You know, they would have already started batting or bowling. But what all is needed in a good team? Everything is there. They have the experience,’’ said in an event ‘Dhoni unplugged’ with Jatin Sapru. “Especially when it comes to this format, the experience is vast. They have played under pressure. Whoever is playing whatever roles they are playing in the team, they have been in that situation for a considerable period of time,” he further added. ‘Mahi’ believes dew remains a major concern in T20 cricket Despite his confidence in the Indian team, Dhoni also pointed out one major factor that can affect matches, i.e. dew. He explained that dew can change playing conditions drastically, especially in night games, making the toss very important. “What worries me? Again, I hate dew. Dew changes a lot of things. So, even when I was playing, something that really scared me was dew. Where the toss becomes crucial and all of that. If we are playing 10 matches with some of the best teams, we will come out as winners more often than not. If the conditions remain neutral," Dhoni said further on dew concerns. Also read: Pakistan receive no support from other boards on boycotting India: PCB 'isolated' in cricket world with looming risk of ICC sanctions ‘T20 cricket Is unpredictable’- MS Dhoni Dhoni also reminded fans that T20 cricket is known for its unpredictability. He said that even strong teams can struggle if key players have an off day, while the opposition delivers an exceptional performance. “The problem is when some of your players have a day off and somebody from the opposition has a brilliant day. And it can happen in the T20 group. So, that’s the time. Whether it happens in the league stage, whether it happens in the knockout stage, that’s where all the praying is needed. You know, nobody should get injured. Whatever roles are given, people should accomplish their roles for the team," the former India captain concluded.

MCC announces 73 major rule changes in cricket:End-of-day play rule tweaked in Test matches, laminated bats and hit-wicket update

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the custodian of cricket laws, has announced 73 major changes to the rules of the game. These updates cover several important aspects of cricket, including Test match playing conditions, boundary catches, hit-wicket laws, dead-ball decisions and equipment standards. All the new rules will come into effect from October 1, 2026. According to MCC, this is the biggest overhaul of cricket laws since 2022 and aims to make the game fairer, clearer, and more exciting for players and fans. One of the most talked-about changes is related to the final over of a day in Test cricket, which MCC believes will add more drama and intensity to the longest format of the game. Test match's last over of the day rule changed Under the new rule, the final over of the day in a Test match must be completed even if a wicket falls during that over. Earlier, play could end immediately if a wicket fell in the last over. MCC explained that stopping play after a wicket was unfair because the new batter did not have to face the remaining balls. The club also stated that this rule did not save time, as the leftover balls had to be bowled the next day anyway. More importantly, it reduced excitement, as new batters escaped challenging conditions. Now, if conditions favour bowlers, the full over will be bowled regardless of a wicket. Clear definition of overthrow and misfield MCC has clearly defined the difference between an overthrow and a misfield. An overthrow will only be counted when a fielder throws the ball at the stumps and it goes past them. If a fielder is trying to stop the ball near the boundary and it slips from their hand, it will be called a misfield, not an overthrow. This clarification will help umpires and players avoid confusion during matches. More power to Umpires for ‘Dead ball’ decisions Earlier, a ball was considered dead only when it reached the bowler or wicketkeeper. Under the new rules, this is no longer required. If the ball has stopped on the field or reached any fielder, and the umpire feels no further runs can be taken, the ball can be declared dead. Umpires will now have more freedom to judge whether the ball has completely stopped. Hit-wicket rule explained clearly MCC has removed confusion around the hit-wicket law by clearly defining different situations: If a batter loses balance after playing a shot and falls onto the stumps, they will be out, even if the ball has travelled far. If a batter collides with a fielder and then falls onto the stumps, they will not be out. If the bat slips from the batter’s hand and directly hits the stumps, the batter will be out. If the bat touches the wicketkeeper or a fielder first and then hits the stumps, the batter will be not be out. New ball sizes for women’s and junior cricket MCC has introduced three different ball sizes after consulting current and former women players: Size-1: The traditional ball used in men’s senior cricket, unchanged. Size-2: Slightly smaller and lighter, designed for women’s cricket and older juniors. Size-3: The lightest and smallest ball, meant for younger junior players. While size and weight will differ, quality, safety, and durability standards will remain the same for all balls. Laminated bats approved To reduce costs, MCC has approved laminated bats (made by joining pieces of wood) for open-age cricket. However, traditional bats will still be used at the highest level of the game.

South Africa won the series by defeating West Indies in the second T20 match. In this match played at SuperSport Park, South Africa easily achieved the huge target of 222 runs thanks to Quinton de Kock's stormy century. Playing his first T20 International on home soil after nearly three years, de Kock completed his century in just 43 balls. South Africa won this match with 15 balls remaining. De Kock hit 10 sixes in his innings of 115 runs
Quinton de Kock put pressure on Caribbean bowlers right from the start of the match. He played 49 balls in his innings of 115 runs, which included 10 sixes and 6 fours. De Kock completed his fifty in just 21 balls and converted it into a century in the next 22 balls. Throughout the innings, he played only 8 dot balls. This is his second century in his T20 career. With this, he also completed his 12,000 runs in T20 cricket and became the highest T20 run-scorer for South Africa, surpassing Faf du Plessis. 162-run partnership with Ryan Rickelton
De Kock got strong support from Ryan Rickelton for the second wicket. Together they put up a 162-run partnership in just 72 balls. Coming in to bat at number 3, Rickelton played his career-best innings, scoring a fifty in 25 balls. He remained unbeaten on 77 runs. This is the fifth time on this ground that a team has successfully chased a target of more than 200. 115-run partnership between Brandon King and Hetmyer for the second wicket
West Indies, who batted first, had a brilliant start. Brandon King (27 runs off 11 balls) and Shimron Hetmyer together took the team's score to 115 runs in the first 10 overs. Sherfane Rutherford played explosive innings in the final overs. He scored 57 runs off just 24 balls, helping West Indies post a score of 221 runs. The Caribbean team added 76 runs in the last 5 overs. Keshav Maharaj turned the match in middle overs
At one point it seemed West Indies would cross 250, but Keshav Maharaj dismissed Rovman Powell and then Shimron Hetmyer in the 15th over to halt West Indies' run rate. Between the 12th and 16th overs, West Indies scored only 27 runs and lost 3 wickets. Poor fielding proved costly for the West Indies
West Indies bowlers and fielders couldn't handle the pressure. Jayden Seales dropped an easy catch of Ryan Rickelton at short third man when he was on just 17 runs. Additionally, Brandon King had scored 24 runs in one over of Anrich Nortje, but later Caribbean bowlers failed to stop de Kock's storm.

New Zealand defeated India by 50 runs in the fourth match of the T20 series. Chasing a target of 216 runs in Visakhapatnam, the Indian team was all out for 165 runs in 18.4 overs. Despite this loss, Shivam Dube was the biggest positive for India. He scored a half-century in just 16 balls, setting the record for India's third-fastest fifty in T20 Internationals. He hit a 101-meter long six on the very first ball of his innings. Rinku Singh stood out in fielding. He created history by taking four brilliant catches in the match, becoming India's second outfielder to take four catches in an innings. Top Moments from IND-NZ 4th T20I 1. Dog invades ACA-VDCA stadium in Vizag During the first innings, there was an unexpected moment when a dog entered the field of play at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag. The animal ran on the field and interrupted play for a while. Shivam Dube hits 101m six Shivam Dube smashed Mitchell Santner for a massive 101m six. Facing his first ball in the ninth over after Hardik Pandya's dismissal, the powerful Dube dispatched New Zealand's captain for a massive maximum over the long-on fence. This was the start of what would turn out to be a fascinating knock from the 32-year-old. 2. Hardik Pandya pulls off stunning run-out Hardik Pandya pulled off a sensational run-out to dismiss Mitchell Santner in the first innings of the match. This happened in the 17th over when Santner tried to take a quick run after hitting the ball towards short third man, but Hardik had other ideas. The all-rounder pulled off a bullet throw which caught Santnet short at the non-striker's end. Despite a big dive, the Kiwi captain fell short, resulting in his dismissal for 11 runs. 3. Shivam Dube's bizarre run-out at the non-strikers' end Shivam Dube's special knock ended in the most unfortunate circumstances at the non-striker's end. Harshit Rana, facing the last delivery of the 15th over, hit the ball straight in Matt Henry's direction. The ball touched Henry's hand and crashed into the stumps at the non-striker's end with Dube way outside his crease. This was one of the turning points of the match, which saw India lose by 50 runs. 4. Conway takes Abhishek's catch and keeps the ball in the pocket After taking Abhishek Sharma's catch, who got out for duck in the 4th T20I, New Zealand batter Devon Conway kept the ball in his pocket. Notably, India's opener returned to the pavilion after being dismissed on the first ball of the innings. 5. Bumrah dropped Seifert's catch New Zealand opener Tim Seifert got a life on the third ball of the first over of their innings. Seifert tried to play a flick shot off Arshdeep Singh's delivery, but the ball swung and took the top edge of the bat. Jasprit Bumrah, standing at short third man, ran backwards and even reached the ball, but couldn't complete the catch. The ball slipped from his hand and went towards the boundary. 6. Abhishek out on first ball, Surya's catch dropped The match started poorly for India. On the very first ball of Matt Henry's over, Abhishek Sharma stepped forward to play a big shot, but got an outside edge and the ball went high towards backward point. There, Conway, running quickly from deep, took a brilliant diving catch and Abhishek Sharma returned to the pavilion without scoring. After this, captain Suryakumar Yadav's catch was dropped on the last ball of the same over. Suryakumar's shot on a short-of-length delivery took a leading edge and went up in the air. Matt Henry tried to take the catch by sliding in his follow-through, but the ball fell to the ground just before his hands. However, in the very next over, Jacob Duffy dismissed him by catching him off his own bowling. He could only score 8 runs. 7. Daryl Mitchell shares batting tips with Shreyas Iyer Daryl Mitchell was seen sharing batting tips with Shreyas Iyer after the match. In a video shared by New Zealand Cricket on social media, Mitchell was seen speaking to Iyer on his stance and foot position while batting.
Top Records from IND-NZ 4th T20I 1. Dube's third fastest fifty for India Shivam Dube scored the third fastest T20 fifty for India. He completed his half-century by hitting a six on the 15th ball. Earlier in this series, Abhishek Sharma had set the record for the second-fastest fifty by scoring a half-century in just 14 balls. The record for the fastest fifty in T20I for India is held by Yuvraj Singh, who scored a half-century in 12 balls against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup. 2. Henry becomes the second bowler to dismiss both openers on the first ball in a series Matt Henry has become only the second bowler in T20 International history to dismiss an opener on the very first ball of the innings twice in the same series. In this very series, Henry first sent Sanju Samson back to the pavilion on the first ball in Guwahati, and then Abhishek Sharma in Visakhapatnam. Before this, such a feat was achieved by Abdul Nasir Baloch (Sweden) during the Nordic T20 Cup in 2023. 3. New Zealand's second-highest T20 total against India New Zealand made their second-highest T20 total against India. The team scored 215 runs. Before this, New Zealand had scored 219 runs in Wellington. 4. First 100+ opening partnership against India after 2022 In T20Is, a 100+ opening partnership was seen for the first time against India after 2022. Before this, such a feat occurred in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, when Jos Buttler and Alex Hales made an unbeaten 170-run opening partnership in Adelaide. Speaking of India's home soil, this was the first 100+ opening partnership in India after 2017. Before this, Colin Munro and Martin Guptill had made an opening partnership of 105 runs in Rajkot. 5. Seifert equals Taylor and Williamson Tim Seifert scored a half-century against India in just 25 balls, making his way into the list of fastest 50-scoring batsmen for New Zealand. With this achievement, he equalled Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. Earlier, in a T20 match played in Auckland in 2020, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor had also completed their half-centuries in 25 balls. 6. New Zealand's highest powerplay total against India New Zealand set a new record in the power play in T20Is against India. The team scored 71 runs without losing a wicket in the first 6 overs, which is New Zealand's biggest powerplay score against India to date. Previously, this record was held by 68/0 made in Auckland in 2020. The special thing was that this performance became even bigger on Indian soil, because 71/0 is the third-highest powerplay total against India by any team in India. 7. Rinku becomes the second Indian to take four catches in an innings In T20s, Rinku Singh became the second Indian outfielder to take four catches in a single innings. Previously, Ajinkya Rahane achieved this feat in 2014 against England at Edgbaston.

I was not enjoying my game. I had a feeling that, “Why am I playing cricket when I am not enjoying it?” I was not feeling supported. I was not feeling respected. The 44-year-old Yuvraj said on the podcast ‘Serving it Up with Sania’ while talking about his cricketing days at the end of his career. India's former all-rounder revealed that this was the real reason behind his retirement from cricket in June 2019. During a conversation on a podcast with tennis star Sania Mirza, Yuvraj said that at that time, he was neither finding joy in the game nor receiving the respect he deserved from the team management and environment. Yuvraj is happy with his decision today Yuvraj Singh clarified that he found mental peace after retirement. He admitted that cricket gave him a lot, but it's also important to stop at the right time.
Yuvraj said, “Why am I lingering on to something that I'm not enjoying? Why do I need to play? To prove what? I can't do more than this, mentally or physically, and it was hurting me. The day I stopped, I was myself again.” Navjot Singh Sidhu told his father that Yuvraj had no talent Recalling his early days, Yuvraj said that there was a time when his ability was questioned. In her question to Yuvi, Sania mentioned how Sidhu wrote Yuvraj Singh off by saying, 'He cannot play. I don't think he has in him (Bhai ye nahi khel sakta, I don't think isme hai).' Also Read: WATCH | IND-NZ 4th T20I top moments and records: Hardik's ‘bullet-throw’, Shivam Dube's unfortunate dismissal dog invading the ground Responding to the question, Yuvraj said, “Now, when I look back at it, I just think he didn't have the time to have a proper look at me. He was just being nice to my dad, have a look at me. And then he was playing for India at that time. I was 13, probably 14, at that time. …I don't take it personally, but my father took it personally.” Not being selected for the World Cup 2019 became a turning point Yuvraj retired from both international cricket and the Indian Premier League when he was not selected for the Indian team for the 2019 ODI World Cup. There was discussion about the number-4 slot in the team, and Yuvraj had hoped based on his experience, but after not being selected, he announced his retirement at a press conference in Mumbai. His last season in the IPL was with the Mumbai Indians. However, he didn't get many opportunities to play matches that season. Yuvraj admitted that when you mentally stop enjoying the game, it becomes even harder to perform on the field. Yuvraj Singh: Player of the Tournament in the 2011 ODI World Cup In the 2011 ODI World Cup, Yuvraj Singh delivered a stellar performance and won the Player of the Tournament award. He scored a total of 362 runs in 8 innings at an average of 90.50, including four half-centuries and one century. He also took 15 wickets in the tournament. Yuvraj was named Player of the Match four times in the tournament and was ultimately chosen as the Player of the Tournament. After the tournament, Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment. He was out of the Indian team for more than a year. After fully recovering, he made his international cricket comeback in September 2012 with a T20 match against New Zealand. Yuvraj holds the record for the fastest half-century for India in T20Is In 2007, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India won the first T20 World Cup. Yuvraj Singh created history in this tournament by hitting six sixes in an over against England. In the same match, he set another major record by scoring a half-century in just 12 balls. This still remains the record for the fastest fifty in T20 cricket for India. Before getting out, Yuvraj played an explosive innings of 58 runs off 16 balls. Yuvraj could only score one century after the 2011 World Cup Yuvraj returned to cricket in 2012 after undergoing cancer treatment, but his game lacked the same brilliance as before. In the 30 ODIs he played after the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj scored 650 runs at an average of 27.08. This included only one century. During this period, he scored 610 runs in 35 T20 International matches at an average of 25.41. Yuvraj, who took 148 wickets in his international career, only managed to take 22 wickets for India after April 2011.

The theatrics from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the potential T20 World Cup have received a jolt as it has been learned that tickets for Pakistan's cricket team have already been booked for their flights to Colombo. Notably, PCB chief and Pakistan interior minister Mohsin Naqvi earlier posted on his X (formerly Twitter) that their government will make a final call on their WC participation by Friday. However, the latest report by Telecom Asia Sport has indicated that Pakistan is advised not to follow suit, and the team is set to fly to Colombo alongside their captain, Salman Ali Agha. Mohsin Naqvi advised to avoid boycotting T20 WC, matches against India It has been learned, as per the same report, that Naqvi met with the Pakistan Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, where the PM backed PCB's stance to support Bangladesh. However, he did not want the PAK team to boycott the tournament, that'll lead to financial repercussions. Moreover, Naqvi is said to have also taken advice from the President, Asif Zardari, alongside the military and former PCB chairpersons, Najam Sethi and Ramiz Raja, all of whom wanted to send Pakistan to the tournament. Also Read: ICC to replace Pakistan with Bangladesh in T20 World Cup?: PCB might suffer severe repercussions for shallow threatening calls In addition to it, PCB chief has also been advised against boycotting the group-stage fixture against India as well. Pakistan backed Bangladesh after ICC booted them out The chairperson of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, had suggested that they would consider a boycott of the tournament in support of Bangladesh following their replacement in the T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh's request to change their venues away from India and to Colombo, citing security concerns, was denied after being outvoted 14-2 in a recent meeting involving the International Cricket Council (ICC) and all the member nations. Naqvi had mentioned that they would consult with the Pakistan government and then make a decision together. Official decision is still awaited from the Pakistan government Considering the meeting that Mohsin Naqvi shared with the Pakistan PM and his message, a final decision is expected to come out by Friday, January 30 or Monday, February 2. Also Read: Bangladesh sends shooting contingent to India after World Cup boycott: BCB refused to send cricket team citing security reasons It is worth noting that Pakistan are set to face Australia in a three-match T20I series beginning on Thursday, and the team management has been told to ensure that they remain prepared for the tournament altogether. Moreover, if the tickets and logistical decisions have already been taken, the pull-out is highly unlikely, considering the tight schedule the team is on.

The T20 World Cup 2026 is set to start on 7 February, and among other teams, a lot of eyeballs would be on India. Placed No. 1 in ICC T20I team rankings and boasting of both the top-ranked batter and bowler in the shortest format, India are a force to be reckoned with. But the upcoming T20 World Cup would see India enter a bit of an unfamiliar territory. This would be the first time that India won't have either Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli at a T20 World Cup! 'Ro-Ko', as they are jointly referred to, have been integral parts of India's team in the shortest format for well over a decade before calling it quits in 2024. No Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli at T20 World Cup 2026 for India Virat and Rohit have been a formidable duo for India at the top of the order in white-ball cricket and they have attained a lot of success at the T20 World Cup as well. And both the superstars ended their stellar T20I careers after winning the T20 World Cup title in 2024-India's first in 17 years. Rohit has been part of all of India's T20 World Cup campaigns so far. The Hitman, as a matter of fact, has been one of just two players (the other being Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan) to have featured in every edition of the tournament. He debuted as a 20-year-old in the tournament's inaugural edition in 2007 and went on to carve a legacy that would inspire the generations to follow. With 1220 runs in 47 matches, Rohit sits second only to Virat in the list of most runs in T20 World Cups. Virat, on his part, made his T20 World Cup debut in 2012. And over the years, he went on to establish himself as an irreplaceable part of India's teams at every T20 World Cup. Virat is the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history, hitting 1,292 runs in 35 matches, including 12 fifties with a highest score of 89*. Virat also won two Player of the Tournament awards (2014, 2016) at the T20 World Cup, a feat that no other player has ever achieved. Also read: Abhishek Sharma two points behind his career-best ratings: Suryakumar Yadav breaks into top ten, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya also make gains How have India filled the gaps left by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli? Well, we took a look at Rohit and Virat's statistics in T20 World Cups, and they are to be bettered by any active T20I player. So, how have India managed to replace the duo? Although the absences of Rohit, Virat and Ravindra Jadeja might be notable, India have a formidable line-up ready to fire at the T20 World Cup. Under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, India have been unstoppable in T20Is since 2024, winning nine consecutive bilateral series. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson Rohit's replacement at the top The Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson opening combination has emerged to be more than able replacements for Rohit Sharma's explosiveness at the top of the order. The two cricketers have achieved considerable success as a pair, hitting quick runs and dominating the opposition right from the outset, exactly what Rohit did in T20Is. Not only do Abhishek and Samson complement each other well, but the left-right combination often puts bowling plans in jeopardy. Abhishek's explosiveness, coupled with Samson's stylish aggression have been a successful recipe for India's wins in T20Is. India also have the luxury of replacing Samson with Ishan Kishan as Abhishek's opening partner should the former be out of form. Tilak Varma has stepped up as Virat Kohli's successor at number three For a long time, there was a debate over who could be a perfect successor to Virat at number three in T20Is. And India seemed to have found an answer in Tilak Varma. Virat, not the most explosive of batters, always soaked up pressure at number three and steered India home, especially in the most difficult of chases. And Tilak has managed to do that job perfectly. Take the Asia Cup final, for example. India had lost early wickets and needed someone to anchor a chase in a high-pressure final against Pakistan. And Tilak stepped up. The southpaw absorbed pressure, rotated strike and accelerated when it was needed, to guide India to a famous victory. Tilak also played a similar knock against England in a run-chase in Chennai last year. Here as well, India have the option of having Kishan as an alternative option for number three in Tilak's absence. Also read: 'Sachin Tendulkar said Virat Kohli can break his records': BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla revisits conversation with Master Blaster-WATCH Ravindra Jadeja also retired after T20 WC 2024, Axar Patel is like-for-like replacement With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India's star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, also retired from the T20I format after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 together in Barbados. In Jaddu's absence, , Axar Patel is being considered as a like-for-like replacement for the upcoming T20 WC in 2026. India's T20 World Cup squad Players like Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy have emerged as the best in T20Is in the world and thus, despite the absence of the stalwarts, India are one of the hot favourites to win a record third T20 World Cup title, a feat that no other team has achieved so far. India are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, USA, Namibia and the Netherlands. Suryakumar Yadav and his men start their T20 World Cup campaign against the USA on 7 February before locking horns against arch-rivals Pakistan in the second group stage game on 15 February, in Colombo.
